i gone and mcDone it

i mcDid it right on st. patty's day. planned for it, brought a friend and executed. yes ma'am, i went to mcDs.

st. patrick was not of irish origin. after i found this out i knew i needed a taste of something real - something visceral, carnal, something that i might immediately regret. with my girl caira connor by my side... a brief aside about caira connor: when she moved in with her host family and introduced herself as caira connor, the first thing they said was, "like sarah connor?" which as you may remember, is totally a TERMINATOR reference. booyay. random chileans, little to no english ability, welcoming in their new daughter into their homes with a, "oh, like sarah connor." gotta love it. her classmates, more or less, said the exact same thing when she walked in. my governor may or may not be a god here. poor caira connor...

anyhow, erwin, my host father, calls it mierDonalds (translation = shitdonalds) and i'm not far from totally agreeing with his sentiment. when in california, i only roll breakfast (food of the gods?) or the angus beef more so prior to my departure. please, collin, nimesh, maddie, and anyone else so inclined - do not talk about angus beef sandwiches on my facebook wall, as it makes me upset. they obviously haven't caught wind of the angus here, but their quarter pounder was pretty much comparable and after weeks of 0 fast food reminscent of the estados unidos, that quatro de libro hit the spot. the chicken sandwich less so, but all in all, a great decision.
also important to note: as i was low on cash, this event marked the first time i used my credit card in south america. there is some slight irony i suppose that the first time i would use my credit card would be at a mcdonalds, yet, i digress, it was enlightening. the meal + my extra chicken sandwich ran somewhere around 5.000 pesos, which is about 10 bones. mcDs ain't exactly cheap down here, more of a luxury. i threw out the card and the cashier person asked, "sin quotas o con quotas?" i feel that this would be an appropriate time to mention that generally, chileans delay the actual payment of everything and anything. sin quotas is without installments. con quotas is with. chances for such delay only manifest when paying with credit, and when you are, the opportunities are seemingly endless. i laughed when she asked and, of course, she did not. she was dead serious and i'm sure the next person in line paid in quotas. i passed, instead opting for the 2nd mortgaging of my host family's new house.
