so without really understanding that the daily progression of days suggested the inevitable arrival of 2008 A.D.'s final month, december snuck up on me. i was aloofly asking a student to announce the date as i wrote it on the board and was actually surprised by his declaration, it was december 1st. being in chile for christmas isn't the worst thing to happen, but it's clearly going to be more peculiar than the prior christmases spent in southern california which have come to feel proper and traditional (canadian cold and on the better years, ample snow being the frame of reference). it's hot as a feverish elephant's balls here in santiago right now and save some english carols being played in the grocery stores and the odd decoration, i'm not picking up on the south american yuletide in this nominally catholic country.
that's why i made sure to have friends and family in christmas countries where it's actually winter. when you have that righteous setup you get emails from your dad telling you of the new penguin lights he purchased and christmas updates from ex-band members/secret lovers named collin tiegs that feature... umm... this:

so keep me in the fa la la la loop folks. i'll be in temuco (southernish chile) for christmas with erwin and angelica's family and i'll be taking all of you with me.
